Elliott F. Elam, Jr. is an attorney and has worked for the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs since 1987. He currently serves as the Consumer Advocate and the Director of the Division of Consumer Advocacy. In that position, Mr. Elam has been responsible for cases before state and federal agencies and courts involving the regulation of telecommunications, electricity, natural gas, water/sewer, and insurance companies. He has served on South Carolina's Telecommunications Relay Service Advisory Committee, the South Carolina Safe Drinking Water Advisory Committee, the South Carolina State Health Planning Committee, the South Carolina State Energy Advisory Committee and the South Carolina Reinsurance Facility. He has also been a member of National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates Telecommunications Committee. Currently, Mr. Elam also works on matters concerning the regulation of Professional Employer Organizations and Prescription Drug Discount Cards. Mr. Elam received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1984, and his Juris Doctorate and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of South Carolina in 1988.
