Mortgage
fraud is on the rise. This type of fraud is the result of several
factors, including subprime lending, increased mortgage loan originations,
increased housing prices and the entrance of non-traditional loans,
such as "low doc" or "no doc" loans, into
the market. Mortgage fraud is further fueled by the current decline
in the housing market.
The
South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs and the South Carolina
Attorney General's Office have partnered in an attempt to protect
the great consumers of South Carolina from this type of fraud and
aid those who have become victims. If you believe you have been a
victim of mortgage fraud, please print and complete the Mortgage
Fraud Complaint Form below. If you have any questions about mortgage
fraud, please call the toll free Mortgage Fraud Hotline at 1-800-553-7723.
